M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks July 4th Holiday Celebrations and Operating Hours

SILVER SPRING, MD – Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission has a variety of activities and programs for families to enjoy this July 4th holiday and weekend.
Spend the day at South Germantown Recreational Park July 4th:
Visit the Splash Playground for a special Mini-Golf Splash-a-Thon from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $5 per person for two rounds of mini-golf and a full day at the Splash Playground.
Enjoy live music, food and fireworks at the Annual Germantown Glory festival (co-hosted with Montgomery County Department of Recreation). The free event starts with live music at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m. Visitors should expect traffic delays up to 75 minutes exiting the park, and are urged not to leave back packs, purses or bags unattended. Other family-friendly July 4th activities and programs in Montgomery Parks include:
Black Hill Boats at Black Hill Regional Park and Lake Needwood Boats at Rock Creek Regional Park will have extended hours for the July 4th holiday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last rental is 6 p.m., boats must be returned by 7 p.m.).
The Olney Manor Skate Park will be open July 4th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The following day, July 5 kicks off the skate park’s “Friday Summer Nights” celebrations which run every Friday, through August 23 from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. and feature live bands, food vendors, contests and prizes all for $5.
Take a ride on Montgomery Parks’ miniature trains at Wheaton Regional Park and Cabin John Regional Park, open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on July 4th. The Ovid Hazen Wells Carousel at Wheaton Regional Park is also open July 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Enjoy the Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly & Caterpillar Exhibit which will be open July 4 and operating on the standard 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule.

There are no Montgomery Parks’ summer camps scheduled for July 4.
July 4th is one of the most popular park visitation days. The Montgomery Park Police urge park visitors to adhere to park rules and regulations during the holiday and remind you that possession and use of fireworks in Montgomery County is illegal.
