Haunted Happenings Planned in Montgomery County Parks

SILVER SPRING, MD — The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) invites ghosts, goblins and ghouls of all ages to celebrate the Halloween season at several haunted happenings in park facilities throughout the county.

Hop on board the C.P. Huntington, the haunted train in Wheaton Regional Park, for a truly hair-raising trip or take a spin on the creepy carousel, daily from Monday, October 17 through Sunday, October 30, 6-9 p.m., 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton. Teenagers, adults and older children will have a blast on both rides, but the train may be too intense for small children or toddlers. To ride on both the carousel and train, the cost is $5 per person. For more information, call 301-942-6703 or go to www.wheatontrainandcarousel.com.

Reserve a space on the Fairy Tale Hike on Saturday, October 29 at Brookside Nature Center, 1400 Glenallan Avenue. For a fee of $5 per child and $2 per adult, meet fairy tale characters in the enchanted Wheaton Regional Park. Hikes start at the nature center at 5 p.m. and run periodically until 7:30 p.m. To make reservations, call 301-946-9071 or go to www.brooksidenature.org.

The “Dark Waters Ghost Pontoon Boat Ride” sails on Little Seneca Lake on Thursday, October 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for ages 7 to adult for $4 per person. Join the “possessed captain” for tales, treats and nocturnal creatures. Little Seneca Lake is in Black Hill Regional Park, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive in Boyds. For more information, call 301-916-0220 or go to www.blackhillnature.org.

Wear your costume and join a howling night of family fun with crafts, live animals and a hike on a jack o’lantern path through Rock Creek Regional Park. The “Halloween Extravaganza” will be held at Meadowside Nature Center, 5100 Meadowside Lane in Rockville, from 6:30-8 p.m. for ages two-adult for $8 per person. Space is limited to the first 50 reservations. Call 301-924-4141 or go to www.meadowsidenature.org.
