Montgomery County Planning Department and Planning Board Announces November 2018 Events

Montgomery County Planning Board and Planning Department Events in November 2018

November 1 –The Planning Board will hold work sessions for the MARC Rail Communities Sector Plan and Forest Conservation Regulation Amendment and discuss the Local Area Transportation Review Pedestrian Adequacy Test Technical Guidance to improve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda.

November 1 – Montgomery Planning will showcase its Design Excellence program at the Biznow Inaugural DC Architecture and Design Summit at DC’s Hamilton Live (600 14th Street NW, Washington, DC).

November 3 – Join Montgomery Planning for the Aspen Hill Walk Audit, starting at the Aspen Hill Library (4407 Aspen Hill Road, Rockville, MD), from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and rate the pedestrian friendliness of sidewalks, crossings and intersections, among other elements of the streetscape. This survey will help inform the Aspen Hill Vision Zero Study, which aims to eliminate traffic related fatalities and severe injuries on Georgia and Connecticut Avenues, and other local roads. The study will examine ways of improving safety and connectivity to community amenities for pedestrians, drivers and bicyclists. 

November 8 – The Planning Board will hold a meeting to discuss several preliminary plans for developments, among other issues. For more information, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

November 10 – The Planning Department is sponsoring a 6-mile bike ride through the Kensington, Forest Glen, Capitol View Park and National Park Seminary Historic Districts. The tour will start at 10 a.m. at Warner Circle Park (10231 Carroll Place, Kensington, MD) and return to that location around 12 noon. Staff from Montgomery Planning’s Historic Preservation Office will discuss the history of the districts and buildings encountered along the bike route. All attendees must RSVP online to reserve a spot and sign a waiver to participate in the bike ride. 

November 14 – Montgomery Planning will hold a kick-off meeting to launch the Shady Grove Sector Plan Minor Master Plan Amendment. The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mill Creek Towne Elementary School (17700 Park Mill Drive, Derwood, MD).  This amendment will reexamine the transportation, staging and implementation recommendations in the 2006 Shady Grove Sector Plan.

November 15 – The Planning Board will hold a work session for the Veirs Mill Corridor Master Plan and will review the scope of work for the Shady Grove Sector Plan Minor Master Plan Amendment. For more information, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.

November 22– The Planning Board will not hold a meeting on this day in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

November 29 – The Planning Board will hold a work session for the Veirs Mill Corridor Master Plan and review several regulatory cases. For more details, consult the Planning Board meeting agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
