Planning Board Seeks Public Comment on the Intercounty Connector
Thursday, July 15, 2004
Testimony Limited to Two Hours, Please Sign Up in Advance to Speak

You're invited to testify on the Maryland State Highway Administration's (SHA) three alternatives for the Intercounty Connector (ICC), Thursday, July 15 at M-NCPPC's auditorium, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring. One of the State's alternates retained for detailed study is the no-build option. Proposed to connect I-270 in Gaithersburg with either Route
1 or I-95 in Laurel, the other alternates are Corridor 1 (along the Master Plan alignment) and Corridor 2 (along a more northern alignment).

You have the opportunity to express your views on the proposed alignments, parkland impacts, transportation efficiency, engineering and design, the associated bikeway, and other concerns. The purpose of the July 15 meeting is for the Planning
Board to provide policy guidance to staff regarding study elements being considered in both Corridor 1 and Corridor 2.
The state will describe the benefits and impacts of all three-study alternatives in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement
(DEIS) to be released this fall. After release of the DEIS, the Planning Board will hear public testimony and deliberate
on the selection of a preferred alternate.

Copies of the staff report will be available to the public Monday, July 12 at the Commission's Montgomery Regional Office Building at 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, and online at www.mcparkandplanning.org.

Since testimony is limited to two hours, you are strongly advised to sign up in advance by calling the Commission's
Community Relations Office, 301-495-4600. Written testimony may be sent to Derick P. Berlage, Chairman, Montgomery County Planning Board, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910, by fax,
301-495-1320, or email mcp-chairman@mncppc-mc.org.
