Planning Board Seeks Public Comment on the Intercounty Connector
Thursday, July 15, 2004
Testimony Limited to Two Hours, Speaker's List is Full

Written Comment Is Encouraged

Since the speaker's list is full, you're invited to submit written comments on the Maryland
State Highway Administration's (SHA) three alternatives for the Intercounty Connector (ICC).
Written testimony may be sent to Derick P. Berlage, Chairman, Montgomery County Planning Board,
8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910; by fax, 301-495-1320; or email
mcp-chairman@mncppc-mc.org.

One of the State's alternates retained for detailed study is the no-build option. Proposed to connect
I-270 in Gaithersburg with either Route 1 or I-95 in Laurel, the other alternates are Corridor 1 (along the Master Plan alignment) and Corridor 2 (along a more northern alignment).

The purpose of the July 15 meeting is for the Planning Board to provide policy guidance to staff regarding study elements being considered in both Corridor 1 and Corridor 2. The state will describe the benefits and impacts of all three-study alternatives in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to be released this fall. After release of the DEIS, the Planning Board will hear public testimony and deliberate on the selection of a preferred alternate.

Copies of the staff report will be available to the public Monday, July 12 at the Commission's Montgomery Regional Office Building at 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, and online at www.mcparkandplanning.org .

Twinbrook Sector Plan Update Begins
Community Meeting Set for Wednesday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the
Twinbrook Elementary School
5911 Ridgway Avenue, Rockville, Maryland

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission's Montgomery County Department of Park and Planning is inviting residents, businesses and organizations to participate in planning for the future of the Twinbrook Community. Working from the vision set forth in the 2000 Charette, share your ideas with fellow community members and staff on building a transit-oriented community near the Twinbrook Metro Station. In addition to sharing your ideas, learn about the planning process and other opportunities to participate in this effort to update the Twinbrook Sector Plan, a part of the 1992 North Bethesda Master Plan. Additional meetings will occur throughout the summer and early fall.

For more information, contact Sandy Tallant, Community-Based Planning, 301-495-1329, sandra.tallant@mncppc-mc.org; or Kristin O'Connor, Community-Based Planning, 301-495-2172, kristin.oconnor@mncppc-mc.org
