Montgomery Parks Announces Family-Friendly Programming During Holiday Break, and Holiday Operating Schedule

Family-friendly programming includes Brookside Gardens’ Garden of Lights and Train Exhibit, Winter Solstice Celebrations, Winter Doubles Tournament at Wheaton Indoor Tennis, Sugarloaf Mountain Hike, and more.

SILVER SPRING, MDMontgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission announces a broad array of family-friendly programming options available this holiday break, including:

Brookside Gardens’ Garden of Lights and Train Exhibit
Open through January 6 (every night except December 24 and 25 and January 1-3)
Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 5:30PM – 9:00PM; Friday and Saturday: 5:30PM – 10PM
(Last car admitted 30 minutes before closing time.)
Cost: $20 per car / van Monday – Thursday; $25 Friday – Sunday
*Advance sale tickets available for $20 good for any night; cash only tickets at entrance

Visitors enjoy a walk-through holiday light show and a miniature G-scale train exhibit. Refreshments, shopping and nightly performances by local musicians are offered in the Brookside Visitors Center.

Winter Solstice Celebrations
Friday December 21, 2012
BLACK HILL VISITOR CENTER 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM (FREE)
Enjoy an invigorating hike with a Park Naturalist on 10 Mile Creek, an area frequented by water fowl and resident bald eagles.

Eco-TEEN Montgomery Sugarloaf Mountain Hike (Ages 13 – 17)

Winter Doubles Tournament at Wheaton Indoor Tennis
December 28, 29 and 30, 2012, Times Vary (Fee: $25)
Participants 18 and older will be guaranteed at least two matches in this women’s, men’s and mixed doubles tournament. Participants may sign up with partners or be paired by skill level by Wheaton Indoor Tennis staff. Deadline for registration is December 21, 2012.
