Montgomery Parks Will Host 2013 Green Matters Symposium: “The New American Landscape”

SILVER SPRING, MD–Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will host the 2013 Green Matters Symposium, titled “The New American Landscape” on Friday, February 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The program will be held in the auditorium of Brookside Gardens and costs $89. Participants will  examine the next chapter of American horticulture and the emphasis on sustainability that will drive landscape design in the coming decades. Sessions will highlight how sustainability has entered the mainstream, including its association with our food, building materials, and even the Olympics, shedding light on what this means and how it applies to landscape design.

  • Integrated Design Strategies for Small Scale Sites and Residential Landscapes  by Heather Venhaus, Principal at Regenerative Environmental Design
  • Ecological-and Beautiful-Stormwater Management        by Steven Torgerson – ASLA, RLA; A. Morton Thomas & Associates, Inc.
  • Creating Diverse and Sustainable Gardens Inspired by Nature   by Rick Lewandowski – Horticulturist, Naturalist, Lecturer and Consultant
  • Sustainable in the Material World          by Meg Calkins – ALSA LEED AP, Ball State University
