Item 1 Silver Place – Presentation of Development Proposals

The Commission has solicited proposals from development firms to plan, design, and construct a mixed-use project in Downtown Silver Spring. The Commission seeks to leverage its existing 3.24-acre site in Downtown Silver Spring (the Montgomery Regional Office Site) to create an exemplary project that satisfies the Commission’s long-term facility needs and overall planning, urban design, environmental, and economic objectives. The Headquarters and Mixed-Use Project will consist of two integrated components: a new headquarters facility for the Parks Department and the Planning Department of approximately 120,000 square feet, and a residential component with a minimum of 30 percent affordable units. The Project is to reflect current planning and design principles through the use of green architecture, exemplary urban design, transportation management, mixed-income housing, and public/private joint development. In fulfilling open space requirements, the developer should provide a design that is supportive and emblematic of the Commission’s mission. Public presentation of development proposals will be as follows:

White Flint Sector Plan Public Meeting November 6, 2006

The Planning Board announces the first public meeting on the White Flint Sector Plan. The purpose of the meeting is to describe the planning process and to conduct a workshop to find out more about the public’s issues and hopes for the future of White Flint.  The specifics with respect to the meeting follow:

White Flint Sector Plan Advisory Group

 Nominations Accepted until Friday, November 10, 2006

The Planning Board is accepting nominations for the Plan Advisory Group (PAG) and has extended the deadline until November 10, 2006.  The Planning Board will appoint members of the PAG in December.

The Plan Advisory Group will represent those interested in planning and urban design for the White Flint area.  It will include people with a variety of perspectives.  The Planning Board is inviting residents of White Flint and nearby neighborhoods, employers, property and business owners, civic group leaders and others to apply.

Planning Board Seeks Public Comment on
Water and Sewer Category Change Requests AD 2006-4

The Planning Board will hear testimony and consider recommendations on Thursday, October 19, 2006, for several water and sewer category changes, recommending that water and/or sewer service to be extended (or denied) to individual properties for the cases listed below. The Planning Board’s recommendations will be sent to the County Executive.

The County Executive will then hold an additional public hearing on October 26, 2006. The following cases are currently being considered:
