PLANNING BOARD SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON THE INTERCOUNTY CONNECTOR
Thursday, July 15, 2004
Testimony Limited to Two Hours, Speakers' List is Full
Written Comment is encouraged

Since the speaker's list is full, you're invited to submit written comments on the Maryland State Highway Administration's (SHA) three alternatives for the Intercounty Connector (ICC). Written testimony may be sent to Derick P. Berlage, Chairman, Montgomery County Planning Board, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910; by fax, 301-495-1320; or email mcp-chairman@mncppc-mc.org.

One of the State's alternates retained for detailed study is the no-build option. Proposed to connect I-270 in Gaithersburg with either Route 1 or I-95 in Laurel, the other alternates are Corridor 1 (along the Master Plan alignment) and Corridor 2 (along a more northern alignment).

The purpose of the July 15 meeting is for the Planning Board to provide policy guidance to staff regarding study elements being considered in both Corridor 1 and Corridor 2. The state will describe the benefits and impacts of all three study alternatives in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to be released this fall. After release of the DEIS, the Planning Board will hear public testimony and deliberate on the selection of a preferred alternate.

Copies of the staff report will be available to the public Monday, July 12 at the Commission's Montgomery Regional Office Building at 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, and online at www.montgomeryplanningboard.org.
