“Is Africa My Home? The Debate About the Colonization of Maryland Blacks in the Nineteenth Century”

The American Colonization Society was founded in 1816. A Maryland auxiliary of this organization helped about 1,200 African Americans settle in Africa. This lecture explores the issues of race in antebellum society and examines the reactions of African Americans to colonization.

During the May 20 fair, you’ll learn about energy efficient, earth-friendly products from vendors and local experts through a series of seminars and exhibits.Children will enjoy playing with the Enviroscape as they learn about the consequences of runoff on the Chesapeake Bay, and lively music will entertain park visitors.
