SILVER SPRING, MD—Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Hyattstown Mill Arts Project invite the public to a special environmental art installation at Little Bennett Regional Park on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Noted artist Mark Parsons will install a site specific environmental sculpture “Big Burr,” marking the completion of Phase 1 of the Day Use Area of Little Bennett Regional Park.
WHAT: Reception and viewing of Mark Parsons environmental sculpture installation titled “Big Burr,” which is being created with the removed invasive bamboo materials from the site construction.

WHY: Celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the Little Bennett Regional Park Day Use Area project and showcase the site specific eco sculpture symbolizing the park’s ecological significance and aesthetics of its rural landscape.
Phase I of the Little Bennett Regional Park Day Use Area project features a vehicular entrance, visitor parking, horse trailer parking, picnic areas, natural surface trail and meadow restoration. The complete project is a multi-year initiative that will provide two public entrances to the park along MD Route 355 with nature based recreational activities emphasizing the site’s unique ecological and cultural heritage. The program includes a multi-purpose classroom pavilion, picnic areas, play complex, amphitheater, public art, interpretive trails, and boardwalks among many other amenities.
Other community partners involved with the Environmental Art Installation include the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and the Sugarloaf Citizens Association.
