SILVER SPRING, MD—Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and Montgomery County Recreation will host a joint public forum on April 23, 2015 at 7 p.m. on future capital improvement projects (CIP) for parks and recreation facilities for fiscal years 2017-2022. Background on Capital Improvement Program
The Capital Improvement Program is a six-year funding plan for capital projects that is approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board and Montgomery County Council every two years. The CIP for Montgomery Parks includes projects for parkland acquisitions, renovation of park facilities, and new development within parks. The Recreation Department’s CIP includes projects for new community/recreation centers and aquatic facilities, and for renovations to existing facilities.
Upcoming projects in the CIP for Fiscal Years 2017 – 2022
Park projects moving forward in the FY17-22 CIP include new parks (Seneca Crossing Local Park and Laytonia Recreational Park); renovations/enhancements to existing parks (Josiah Henson Historical Park, Little Bennett Regional Park, Northwest Branch Recreational Park, and Woodside and Kemp Mill urban parks); hard surface trail segments along North Branch and Magruder Branch trail systems;, and natural surface trails at Rachel Carson Greenway, Black Hill Regional Park and Cabin John stream valley park. On-going infrastructure maintenance includes ADA-related improvements, energy conservation measures, playground and tennis court renovations; and environmental and cultural resource conservation programs. The Montgomery County Department of Recreation’s Capital Budget includes construction of a new community recreation center in N. Bethesda; facility improvements at Good Hope and Ross Boddy recreation centers; and Western County outdoor pool and Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center.
