Montgomery Parks Unveils New Wheaton Sports Pavilion at Spring Open House March 17, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Original skating rink in Wheaton Regional Park repurposed; new covered 200’ x 85’ field available to rent for soccer, lacrosse and futsal games.

SILVER SPRING, MDMontgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, announces a Spring Open House for their newest facility, Wheaton Sports Pavilion on Sunday, March 17 from 1-3p.m.

The Open House will feature soccer drills facilitated by members of the Wheaton Fútbol Club and the Montgomery College Soccer Raptors, a 2p.m. scrimmage game with members of the Men’s and Women’s Raptors Soccer teams, and tours of the facility. Light refreshments will be provided by El Punto del Sabor restaurant in Germantow­­n, and attendees can enter to win one of three $50 gift certificates to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Wheaton Sports Pavilion is a covered, 200’ x 85’ multi-purpose sports field, featuring state-of-the-art synthetic turf made with Nike Grind® (manufactured from recycled athletic shoes); lines for soccer, lacrosse and futsal sewn into the turf; new lighting, sound system and WiFi; four team rooms, a referee room and First Aid room. The field is available to rent year-round.

The Wheaton Sports Pavilion was formerly the original ice rink in Wheaton Regional Park. Since the addition of the “new” completely closed indoor rink more than ten years ago, the “outdoor rink” has been used for a wide variety of activities, including broomball, ice hockey, inline skating, family movie nights, and an indoor flea market for two summers.
