Montgomery Parks Will Host Community Meeting on February 4, 2013 to Review Design Plans for Josiah Henson Park Facility Restoration

Community meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at Tilden Middle School.

SILVER SPRING, MD – M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks will host a community meeting on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 7 p.m. to review design plans for the Josiah Henson Park Facility. The meeting will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Tilden Middle School at 11211 Old Georgetown Road in Rockville.  In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on February 11 at 7 p.m. at the same location.

This project proposes to rehabilitate the existing historic Riley/Bolten House and attached log kitchen, which are located on the former plantation property (now Josiah Henson Park) where Josiah Henson was enslaved in the early to mid-1800’s before escaping to freedom in Canada. The project work includes interpretive exhibits about Reverend Henson’s life which served as the inspiration for Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

For additional information about the project, or to submit written comments, please visit the Josiah Henson Park Facility Plan webpage.
