M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks Cancels Four of Six Public Meetings on New Park Activity Building Tenants; YMCA Withdraws Proposals

SILVER SPRING, MD—M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks has canceled four of six upcoming public meetings originally scheduled for this week and the week of July 23 to introduce organizations selected to lease several park activity buildings that were closed in 2010 due to low use. Two of the originally scheduled public meetings, one taking place tonight, July 17, and the other on July 25th will be held as planned. The other meetings have been canceled following a decision by the tenant selected for those facilities, the YMCA (Ayrlawn and Silver Spring) to withdraw their proposals.

Notice of these cancellations will be provided to members of the communities impacted.

The Park Activity Buildings listed above are part of a package of eight buildings that Montgomery Parks offered for lease pursuant to a Request for Proposals issued in April 2012. Montgomery Parks received offers for six of the eight buildings. Four of the buildings were awarded to the YMCA and are now available for lease. The two buildings for which no offers were received remain available.

In accordance with its procurement regulations, Montgomery Parks will be in contact in the coming weeks with other entities that have submitted proposals for or otherwise expressed interest in the available Park Activity Buildings. In addition, Montgomery Parks will accept expressions of interest or proposals for available buildings. Those buildings are:
(1) Colesville Park Activity Building – 610 Hobbs Dr., Silver Spring, MD 20904
(2) Maplewood-Alta Vista Park Activity Building – 5209 Alta Vista Rd., Bethesda, MD 20814
(3) North Chevy Chase Park Activity Building – 4105 Jones Bridge Rd., Chevy Chase, MD 20815
(4) North Four Corners Park Activity Building – 211 Southwood Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20901
(5) Owens Park Activity Building – 119900 Beallsville Road, Beallsville, MD 20839
(6) Stoneybrook Park Activity Building – 4105 Havard Street, Wheaton, MD 20906

The Clarksburg Sports Association has proposed use of this building to offer curriculum-based after school care programs, Tae Kwon Do classes, youth sports clinics, tutoring, a summer camp, and activities such as art classes, dance and theatre.

Alef Bet Montessori School has proposed use of this facility to provide a traditional Montessori school experience within an atmosphere of Jewish learning.

In addition to the park activity buildings that have been offered for lease, there are eighteen similar buildings located within Montgomery Parks that are available to the public for birthday parties, reunions, celebrations, and other community events.
