It’s Open Season in Montgomery Parks: Trains, Splas Playground and Mini-Golf, Boats All Open for Fun this May

SILVER SPRING, MD—It’s open season in Montgomery Parks, with several of the parks department’s popular seasonal facilities—Wheaton Train and Carousel, Cabin John Train, South Germantown Miniature Golf and Splash Playground, Black Hill Boats and Lake Needwood Boats—open again for the year this month.

“We were open for Spring Break and enjoyed lots of visitors to the Wheaton Train and Carousel, so we are looking forward to seeing them all back again this summer,” said Department of Parks Wheaton Train Manager Nancy Blum. “We’re also happy to announce that both the train and carousel will stay open later on weekends—until 7:30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.”

The Wheaton Miniature Train and Carousel located at 2002 Shorefield Road, Wheaton is open daily starting today through August 31. The Cabin John Miniature Train, 7400 Tuckerman Lane in Rockville, is open Saturdays and Sundays in May and open daily starting June 1. Both trains open at 10 am and tickets are $1.75 per ride. For more on the trains visit www.WheatonTrainandCarousel.com and www.CabinJohnTrain.com.

“We’re turning on the water and gearing up for summer,” said Department of Parks South Germantown Mini Golf and Splash Playground Manager Dean Turnbull. “And this year, we’re offering  new ‘Senior Tee Times’ on Monday mornings, where groups of seniors can come play early at a discounted rate and ‘BFF Fridays,’ where teens can play two for one on Friday nights.”

South Germantown Mini Golf opens Saturdays and Sundays starting May 2.  The South Germantown Splash Playground will open Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 23. Both the Mini Golf and Splash Playground facilities will open daily beginning June 15. South Germantown Splash Playground and Mini Golf is located at 18056 Central Park Circle in Boyds. "Splash and Golf Combo" tickets are $7, which includes one round of miniature golf and a day's pass to the Splash Playground. Otherwise splash playground tickets and one round of mini golf costs $4.50 each. For more on the South Germantown Mini Golf and Splash Playground see www.SplashandGolf.com

“There’s quite a bit new at Lake Needwood Boats this season,” said Department of Parks Needwood Boat Manager Kevin VanScoyk. “We’ve added healthy snacks to our snack bar and made them available for purchase at the Boat House any time we're open and when you visit don’t forget to ask for your ‘Captain's Club’ card—each time you rent any boat, we'll punch your card. Rent four times and your fifth rental is FREE!”

Both Black Hill Boats, 20920 Lake Ridge Drive in Boyds, and Lake Needwood Boats, 15700 Needwood Lake Circle in Rockville, are open this and every Saturday and Sunday and Memorial Day in May.  Both boat rental facilities open Wednesdays – Sundays beginning May 27. Black Hill Boats offers rowboats, canoes and kayaks for rent.  Lake Needwood Boats rents rowboats, canoes, kayaks and pedal boats. Both boat facilities also have pontoon boat tours of the lakes.
