SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board has postponed a hearing originally scheduled for Thursday, June 12 for the Falkland Chase Apartments, a 1930s-era complex of garden apartments in downtown Silver Spring.
The board postponed the case to provide additional time for the planning staff to collect information concerning the site and prepare its recommendations. The board relies on its professional planning staff to analyze and make recommendations on all cases.
Last December, the Board voted to find the Falkland Chase complex eligible for the county Master Plan for Historic Designation, a list protecting historic properties by prohibiting demolition or significant changes. After being determined eligible, the apartment complex needs to go through the county Historic Protection Commission, the Planning Board, and, finally, on to the County Council for a final decision on whether it should be placed on the historic list.
The Planning Board will hold the public hearing on July 10.
