SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning
Board will hold a special session at
7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 to hear from planning expert
Ned Hill, their latest presenter in its ongoing Growth
Management Speaker Series, and a report from the Department of Parks
regarding the condition of about 60 recreation buildings located throughout the
park system.
Hill, a professor and
distinguished scholar of economic development at the Maxine Levin College of
Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University, will present what he calls the 10
fundamentals of economic development. Those guidelines, he says, help regions
and communities maximize their local resources and competitive advantages and
avoid common pitfalls and what he calls development “fads.” Hill will make the
distinction between community and economic development and help the Board and
others understand how to bridge the two.
Staff from the Department of Parks will update the Board on
the initial results of a condition assessment study of approximately 60 small
recreation buildings scattered throughout Montgomery County’s 33,000-acre park
system. No public testimony will be
taken.
