Item 1 | Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan – Planning Board Bus TourThe Planning Board will attend a tour of the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan area in advance of a scheduled Public Hearing on September 25. This tour is free and open to any members of the public to attend. To request a space on the bus, please complete our seat request form by September 18 at noon. The purpose of the tour is educational. No business is conducted on the tour. A reasonable number of spaces have been reserved for public attendance on the tour bus as an observer. The public is also welcome to meet the Board at any of the stops per the meeting agenda below. Times are estimates and subject to change based on traffic conditions. 1. Departure – Wheaton HQ – 8:30 a.m. Attendees will board a Ride On bus from the Grandview Avenue entrance to the Planning Department office in Wheaton (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD 20902). 2. Destination #1 – Clarksburg Heights Neighborhood & Community of Faith United methodist Church – approx. 9:20-9:30 a.m. Disembark to view learn about the church (22420 Frederick Rd, Clarksburg, MD 20871) and neighborhood, recommended for historic designation by the draft sector plan. 3. Destination #2 – Little Seneca Creek Stream Valley Park – approx. 9:30-9:45 a.m. Disembark for a short walk (approx. 0.4 miles, round trip) into the park along a gently sloping natural surface trail to view Little Seneca Creek and learn about the plan’s recommendations to protect and enhance the stream valley park. Trailhead is located on the southside of Little Seneca Parkway, near the intersection with Brick Haven Way. Please Note: trail walk is weather- and trail condition-dependent. 4. Destination #3 – Linthicum East Elementary school Reservation site – approx. 9:50-10:10 a.m. Disembark on Seneca Ayr Drive near its intersection with Ethel Rose Way to view the school reservation site and plan-recommended temporary passive park improvements, as well as the Linthicum Family property across Little Seneca Creek to discuss potential future development and the recommended alignment of Observation Drive. 5. Destination #4 – Cabin Branch Neighborhood – approx. 10:15-10:30 a.m. Disembark near the intersection of Little Seneca Parkway and Lake Ridge Drive to view the potential western landing area for a bridge overpass or highway interchange of Little Seneca Parkway and the proximity of existing housing to I-270 (related to a plan-recommended setback of residential uses from I-270 on the east side of the highway). 6. Destination #5 – Former COMSAT Laboratories Building and Property– approx. 10:40-11:40 a.m. Disembark near the former COMSAT Laboratories building (22300 Comsat Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871) to view the building that was considered but is not recommended by the draft plan for historic designation, as well as the development potential and related plan recommendations for the surrounding property. 7. Arrival – Wheaton HQ – approx. 12:30 P.m. Return to the Grandview Avenue entrance to the Planning Department office in Wheaton.
