Montgomery County Planning Board and Department Events in February 2017
February 2 –The Planning Board will hold its third work session on the Rock Spring Master Plan Consult the Board’s online agenda for details about the meeting in the Planning Department auditorium (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD).
February 3 – Enjoy the first public performance of Voices in the Dark, a play based on the Slave Narratives collected by the Library of Congress in the 1930s. The play is written, directed and produced by Darrell Godfrey of the Planning Department, and staged by staff of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Performances will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on the University of Maryland campus in College Park. Tickets can be purchased online.
February 5 – Learn about the history of Montgomery County’s Jewish communities at the “Community Builders” presentation given by Planning Department preservationist Clare Lise Kelly at the Beth Chai congregation’s adult education class at Burning Tree Elementary School (7900 Beech Tree Road, Bethesda, MD) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
February 9 – The Planning Board will hold its second work session on the White Flint 2 Sector Plan. Consult the Board’s online agenda for details about the session.
February 14 – Attend the community meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. at Garrett Park Elementary School (4810 Oxford St, Garrett Park, MD) to discuss the preliminary recommendations for the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Area Minor Master Plan.
February 15 – Learn about 20th-century design in Montgomery County from Planning Department preservationist Clare Lise Kelly, who will talk about her book, Montgomery Modern: Modern Architecture in Montgomery County, 1930-1979. The event is sponsored by Oasis Lifelong Learning and will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Macy’s home store in Montgomery Mall.
February 16 –The Planning Board will hold its fourth work session on the Rock Spring Master Plan. Consult the Board’s online agenda for details about the session.
February 21 – Learn about new ways of activating urban parks at the second session of the 2017 Winter Speaker Series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Planning Department (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). The presentation, From Parks to Energized Open Spaces, is free and open to the public.
February 22 – Attend the first meeting for the Veirs Mill Corridor Plan from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sargent Shriver Elementary School (12518 Greenly Street, Silver Spring, MD). The discussion will focus on the purpose and scope of the plan.
February 23 – The Planning Board will hold the third work session on the White Flint 2 Sector Plan. Consult the Board’s online agenda for details about the session.
