SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, are pleased to announce their April 2018 calendar of events. These events offer opportunities for the Planning Department staff and Planning Board members to discuss projects and policies, and engage the public. Montgomery County Planning Department and Board Events in April 2018
April 2 – Applications for county historic preservation tax credits must be filed with the Planning Department by 5 p.m. To be eligible, the property must be listed in the Montgomery County Master Plan for Historic Preservation. The exterior repair and restoration work must have been completed no later than December 31, 2017. Consult the Planning Department website to download the tax credit application.
April 5 – The Planning Board will meet to discuss regulatory cases and hold the first work session for the MARC Rail Communities Plan. For more details, consult the Planning Board agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
April 10 – The Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Planning Department auditorium to discuss historic area work permit applications and issues related to historic properties in Montgomery County.
April 12 –The Planning Board will hold work sessions for the Bicycle Master Plan and Technical Update to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways. For more details, consult the Planning Board agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
April 16 – The Planning Department is hosting the public event, A Better Maryland: Community Listening Session Agenda, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Department’s headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). The session will allow state officials to hear from county residents about how best to update Maryland’s overall development plan, called A Better Maryland, that is being created by the Maryland Department of Planning. This plan supports Montgomery County’s master plan process for growing responsibly, protecting our resources and creating quality places.
April 19 – The Planning Board will hold a work session for the Bicycle Master Plan and review various development projects. For more details, consult the Planning Board agenda, which will be posted online 10 days before the meeting date.
April 24 – The Great Seneca Science Corridor Implementation Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. at the Universities at Shady Grove (9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD) in the board room of Building III.
April 25 – The Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Planning Department auditorium to discuss historic area work permit applications and issues related to historic properties in Montgomery County.
April 26 – The Planning Board will hold a public hearing for the Veirs Mill Corridor Master Plan. One of the chief goals of the plan is to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users in accordance with Montgomery County’s Vision Zero policy, which as the goal of eliminating traffic-related fatalities and severe injuries by 2030. Community residents and stakeholders interested in testifying at the public hearing should sign up online 10 days before the hearing. The public can also submit comments about the plan via email to mcp-chair@mncppc.org.
