CHEVY CHASE, MD—The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Montgomery County Department of Parks with Chevy Chase Village is hosting a public meeting to solicit input on creating a vision and concept plan for Chevy Chase Open Space Urban Park.
Chevy Chase Open Space Urban Park was acquired in 2002 through the M-NCPPC Department of Parks Legacy Open Space program. This two-acre park provides an opportunity to create green open space for the use and enjoyment of urban residents in one of the most densely-populated Metro Station areas in Montgomery County.
Parks staff has already made some improvements to the park, including building demolition in 2009 and the removal of dead/hazardous trees and invasive shrubs, still underway.
During this community meeting, parks staff will share the park’s history with attendees, plus information about relevant policy guidelines, the planning process and the proposed schedule for the project. The primary goal of the meeting is to hear ideas for the park from the community that will help create a vision and concept plan for Chevy Chase Open Space Urban Park.
A second community meeting is planned for this project, anticipated this fall, to get feedback on draft concept plans. Parks staff will then finalize a preferred concept plan for presentation and approval by the Montgomery County Planning Board before the plan is scheduled for implementation through facility planning and Capital Improvements Program (CIP) funding.
For more information and ways to input on this project, see www.ParkPlanning.org.
