Montgomery Parks 2014 Memorial Day Weekend Activities and Operating Schedule

Boating and fishing facilities and Splash Playground and Miniature Golf will open full-time for the season starting May 24, 2014.

SILVER SPRING, MD—Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission has a variety of activities you can enjoy during the Memorial Day Weekend. Several seasonal facilities will open for weekend and weekday use starting Memorial Day weekend.

  • Boating and fishing facilities at Black Hill Regional Park (www.BlackHillBoats.com) and Rock Creek Regional Park (www.LakeNeedwoodBoats.com) will be open from 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. during Memorial Day Weekend. All boats must be returned by 7 p.m.
  • The Splash Playground and Miniature Golf at South Germantown Recreational Park will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. during Memorial Day Weekend. (www.SplashandGolf.com)
  • The miniature train at Cabin John Regional Park and miniature train and carousel at Wheaton Regional Park will be open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. during the Memorial Day weekend.

Montgomery Parks Tennis Centers are offering summer spot time special $12/hour per court.

  • Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center will be open Saturday, May 24, 6 a.m. – 4 pm.; Sunday, May 25, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The center is closed Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. No Group lessons will be offered all weekend.
  • Wheaton Indoor Tennis (an air conditioned facility) will be open Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The center is closed Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. No group lessons will be offered all weekend.

Brookside Gardens is open during Memorial Day weekend from sunrise to sunset,; The Visitors Center is open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and conservatories are open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

A sampling of other activities taking place in Montgomery Parks during Memorial Day weekend includes:

Saturday, May 24:

  • 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Let’s Golf clinics at the South Germantown Driving Range. The one-hour clinics starting at 8 a.m. for beginners, 9 a.m. for intermediate and 10 a.m. for advanced offer participants (ages 5 – 17) personalized instruction in a variety of golf skills. $30 for advanced registration. $35 on-site. www.ParkPASS.org (Course #s 273338, 273342, 273404).

 

Sunday, May 25:

  • 9 – 10:30 a.m.: Golf for Girls clinic at South Germantown Driving Range (ages 7 – 16). Participants will learn to play golf and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment. $30 www.ParkPASS.org (Course #274849)
  • 2 – 3 p.m.: Free McCrillis Garden Tour,  6910 Greentree Road, Bethesda, MD 20817

All Montgomery Parks’ facilities, parks and programs will follow standard operating hours with the following exceptions:

 

CLOSED ALL WEEKEND SATURDAY, MAY 24 – MONDAY, MAY 26, 2014:

  • Wheaton Ice Arena and Cabin John Ice Rink
  • Brookside Nature Center

 

CLOSED ON MEMORIAL DAY, MONDAY, MAY 27, 2013

  • Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center and Wheaton Indoor Tennis Center
  • All recreational and regional athletic fields located in Montgomery Parks
  • Park Permits Office
  • Montgomery Parks Nature Centers:
    • Locust Grove Nature Center
    • Meadowside Nature Center
