New facility at South Germantown Recreational Park is first of its kind to open in the county in more than three decades.
SILVER SPRING, MD—M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks and Jack Schore Tennis will celebrate the grand opening of the Montgomery TennisPlex at South Germantown Recreational Park with free activities and a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The Montgomery TennisPlex is a public-private partnership between M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks and Jack Schore Tennis. The new center, offering tennis instruction and programming from United States Tennis Association (USTA) Hall of Fame coach Jack Schore and his staff, features:
- Eight new indoor hard courts housed in two all season, air-conditioned, fabric-covered buildings (bubbles);
- Four new outdoor hard courts with lights;
- A clubhouse;
- Outdoor benches and picnic tables with a pedestrian path.
Montgomery Tennisplex is the first new tennis center in Montgomery County in three decades. The partnership was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board on January 7, 2010 to provide the community with a high quality facility and instruction at no cost to taxpayers.
Montgomery TennisPlex will offer both seasonal and spot time court rentals, and junior, adult and senior lessons and programs for people at all levels of play. The TennisPlex will also offer a variety of special events, team play, summer camps, and USTA “10 and Under Tennis” formats, as well as private and group clinics.
“Jack Schore Tennis has been a true partner with Montgomery Parks in building this tennis center,” said Mary Bradford, Director of M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks. “We are so pleased to celebrate the opening of Montgomery TennisPlex today and showcase this wonderful new center for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities who are interested in the sport. It is a perfect addition to South Germantown Recreational Park, and fulfills a growing need for an indoor tennis center in the northern part of the county.”
“We look forward to bringing a high quality, community-based tennis center to Montgomery County,” said Jack Schore, USTA Hall of Fame coach. “In fact, our coaches and our staff can hardly wait to open our doors so we can begin serving the public in a first class manner.”
