Montgomery Parks October and November Schedule of Public Meetings and Park Construction and Renovation Projects

SILVER SPRING, MDMontgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission announces the following upcoming public meetings and park construction and renovation projects taking place in October and November, 2013.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

October 15, 2013
Public Meeting on the Proposed Trail Connector in Little Bennett Regional Park

Montgomery Parks invites the community to review and provide input on the design of a new trail connector in Clarksburg, Maryland from the Little Bennett Regional Park Maintenance Yard to the south entry of the future Little Bennett Park Day Use Area. The plan and design alternatives for the proposed one mile, eight-foot wide hard surface trail will be presented.

Montgomery Parks invites the community to provide input and gather preliminary information about plans for a new dog park to be located in downtown Silver Spring in Ellsworth Urban Park on Colesville Rd., just north of the Silver Spring Library. Park planners will answer questions and solicit ideas from the public for this and future urban dog park sites.

Montgomery Parks invites the community to review renovation plans for Caroline Freeland Park and provide input on park usage and potential park improvements. The one-acre park located in downtown Bethesda is named for the first female chair of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Proposed renovations will identify opportunities to improve the park as an amenity for the local community, while balancing the need to improve connections to the Bethesda Central Business District (CBD).

Montgomery Parks invites the community to review renovation plans for the Rock Creek Trail, including proposed renovations to the Rock Creek Hiker-Biker Trail, opportunities to enhance the natural environment along the trail, ways to reduce the frequency of trail maintenance, and ideas to improve safety, pavement conditions, drainage, and accessibility.

PARK CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION PROJECTS

WSSC Work on Rock Creek Regional Park Trails Taking Place Through Spring 2014

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is beginning work to repair sewer lines within Rock Creek Regional Park which will impact the Rock Creek Hiker Biker Trail, Lakeside Trail and trails to the west of Lake Needwood. Trails will remain open during construction.

Park Improvements Being Made to Bridge on Long Branch Stream Valley Trail

Montgomery Parks will begin repair work this week on a bridge on the Long Branch Stream Trail which is expected to last through October 23.  The trail will remain open and there will be a detour around the bridge during the time of the repairs, which will be done between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. The bridge will be available for use on evenings and weekends.
