Montgomery Parks Offers Both “Scary” and “Not-So-Scary” Park Train Rides for Children this Halloween Season

SILVER SPRING, MD—During October the Montgomery County Department of Parks will offer two different Halloween-themed train rides for children. One train ride will be suited for older children (scary) and a second will be geared toward younger children (not-so-scary).

Wheaton Train and Carousel at Wheaton Regional Park will host the scary “Haunted Train” (for children ages 8 and up) from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11; Thursday through Sunday, October 15-18; and Friday to Friday, October 23-30. In addition to the Haunted Train at Wheaton Regional Park activities will also include a Creepy Carousel ride, Hall of Jack-o’-Lanterns and face painting.

“The Haunted Train is always a huge hit with the older kids. It’s a great way to spend the evening during the run-up to Halloween,” said Wheaton Train Manager Nancy Blum. “Parents seem to really enjoy it, too.”

Cabin John Train at Cabin John Regional Park offers the alternative not-so-scary option with its “Eye Spy Train” for younger kids (8 and under) from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 22 through Friday, October. 30. Additional activities include “Eye Spy” cards and flashlights for children, Halloween movies and nightly door prizes.

“Younger children don’t like to be left out, but sometimes they don’t respond well to the tongue-in-cheek fright of the Halloween season,” said Cabin John Train Manager Scott Geasey. “The not-so-scary train ride is a wonderfully festive way for parents with younger children to enjoy the fall evenings.”

The cost for the Wheaton Haunted Train and Carousel ride is $6 (which covers all attractions) or $5 with the donation of a can of food. The cost for the Cabin John Eye Spy Train is $5 (which covers all attractions) or $4 with a can of food. Advance same-day ticket sales are available at both train stations beginning at 2:00 pm each day the trains run.
