Virtual meetings continue for Planning Board and Historic Preservation Commission as well as work sessions for the Subdivision Staging Policy update; last Planning Board meeting in Silver Spring before department moves to downtown Wheaton scheduled for July 30
SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have announced their July 2020 calendar of online meetings. Review the list of events below and go online to www.montgomeryplanning.org for more details.
During this time of social distancing in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Planning Board will continue to hold public meetings online while the department’s headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) remains closed to the public. Community members may sign up to testify and provide comments to the Board on specific agenda items through written testimony and via phone during the meeting. The July schedule of events is subject to change based on the response to the COVID-19 virus.
There are many ways to participate during Planning Board meetings:
- Watch the Planning Board meeting live online and on-demand.
- Listen live via phone to the Planning Board meeting by calling: 301-495-4708 Password: 87871111
- Sign up to testify to provide comment via phone during the Planning Board meeting by filling out the Sign Up to Testify form by 12 noon on the day before the Planning Board meeting. On the afternoon before the meeting, you will receive an email with a phone number to call in during a designated time to provide testimony for a specific agenda item. Submitting this form online by the deadline is the only way to testify on meeting items.
- Send written testimony to provide comment on Planning Board agenda items by emailing mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org, by 12 noon on the day before the Planning Board meeting.
- If you have questions, leave a message at 301-495-4605 and a staff member in the Planning Board Chair’s office will return your call.
July 2 –The Planning Board will hold their meeting online with a work session on the 2020 update to the Subdivision Staging Policy (SSP). During the work session, board members will focus on the SSP Schools Element and taxes. Staff will also present the Purple Line Pedestrian Connectivity Report to the Board as part of Montgomery Planning’s development of the Pedestrian Master Plan. July 9 – The Planning Board will hold their meeting online, during which there will be a work session on the 2020 update to the Subdivision Staging Policy (SSP). Board members will focus on the SSP Transportation Element and taxes. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting, for more information. July 15 – Attend an online meeting for the Corridor Forward: I-270 Transit Plan (12:30-1:30 p.m.). Using the Corridor Forward plan as a framework, staff will consider and prioritize transit options along the I-270 Corridor between the City of Frederick, MD and Tysons, VA. The meeting will be held on Microsoft Teams Live and we will post a link to the meeting prior to the start of the meeting.
July 16 – The Planning Board will hold their meeting online. During the meeting, board members will engage in a work session on the 2020 update to the Subdivision Staging Policy to make final decisions on the policy. July 17 – The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s (M-NCPPC) full body will host their monthly meeting virtually. Staff will provide a briefing on the I-495 and I-270 Managed Lanes Study. Watch the briefing live.
July 17 – Join Montgomery Planning for an online listening session for the sector plan for downtown Silver Spring (7-8:15 p.m.). Community members will have the opportunity to share thoughts, concerns and ideas for the future of downtown Silver Spring and its surrounding area. The session will start with a short introduction, and then break into smaller groups. We will share login information prior to the start of the meeting.
July 21 – Join Montgomery Planning for an online listening session for the sector plan for downtown Silver Spring (12-1:15 p.m.). Community members will have the opportunity to share thoughts, concerns and ideas for the future of downtown Silver Spring and its surrounding area. The session will start with a short introduction, and then break into smaller groups. We will make login information available prior to the start of the meeting.
July 23 –The Planning Board will hold their meeting online, which will include a public hearing on the Complete Streets Design Guide. Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.
July 27 – Join Montgomery Planning for an online listening session for the sector plan for downtown Silver Spring (5:30-6:45 p.m.). Community members will have the opportunity to share thoughts, concerns and ideas for the future of downtown Silver Spring and its surrounding area. The session will start with a short introduction, and then break into smaller groups. Prior to the start of the meeting, we will share login information.

July 30 –The Planning Board will hold their meeting online. The Planning Board will take action to approve the Planning Board draft of the 2020 update to the Subdivision Staging Policy. This will be the final Planning Board meeting hosted at Montgomery Planning’s headquarters at the Montgomery Regional Office in Silver Spring before Montgomery Planning, the Planning Board and Montgomery Parks move to their new headquarters in downtown Wheaton.
