SILVER SPRING, MD – At a 9 a.m. Thursday, June 21 presentation
to the Montgomery County Planning Board, Peter Park, a planning manager who has
brought a unique planning perspective to some of the nation’s biggest cities,
will share his years of experience in urban design.
Park,
the latest expert in the Montgomery County Planning Board’s Growth Management Speaker Series, specializes in urban planning that features innovative
design solutions to unique and challenging sites. He brings experience from
working as Milwaukee’s planning director and his current position as Denver’s
manager of Community Planning and Development.
In
Milwaukee, Park adopted a comprehensive approach to planning that raised
awareness of the importance of design and streamlined development review
procedures. Also during his tenure there, Park completed a comprehensive update
of the city’s zoning code. In Denver, Park has streamlined the city’s master
plan program to support a zoning revision. His experiences in Wisconsin and
Colorado are particularly relevant as the Montgomery County Planning Department
embarks on an overhaul of its zoning ordinance, rewrites master plans and puts
the final touches on new development review procedures.
As Denver’s top planner,
Park oversees a staff of 200 working in planning, zoning, construction permits
and inspection services. His topic, “Balancing Community and Development Needs
with Innovative Design and Planning Tools,” will include a question-and-answer
period.
