Park and Planning Commission Seeks Public Comment on 2007 Proposed Operating Budget

SILVER SPRING, MD — The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission seeks public comment on the agency’s proposed operating budget for fiscal year 2007 during a public forum on Thursday, October 20, 7:30 p.m. at the M-NCPPC auditorium, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.

“The comments we received at last year’s forum were extremely helpful in developing a budget that was responsive to community needs,” said Planning Board Chairman Derick P. Berlage. “We’re greatly interested in residents, businesses and community organizations sharing their important perspectives.”

Berlage anticipates that some of the priorities for the 2007 budget may include: maintaining existing infrastructure in the park system; reforming the development review process; improving community outreach to foster greater citizen involvement in the planning process; making public documents more accessible on the Internet; developing a better coordinated system of access to playing fields; and exploring the impact of increased population density and diversity.

Those wishing to sign up in advance to testify in person may call 301-495-4600. Written testimony may be sent to the Planning Board Chairman Derick Berlage at 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20910, faxed to 301-495-1320 or emailed to MCP-Chairman@mncppc-mc.org.
