Big Ideas Series continues, Planning Board briefings and community meetings for the Subdivision Staging Policy and Pedestrian Master Plan

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), are pleased to announce their February 2020 calendar of events. February 4 – The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing for the Germantown Plan for the Town Sector Zone in the 3rd floor Council Hearing Room (100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD). The hearing starts at 1:30 p.m. and will be televised live on County Cable Montgomery (CCM). Learn more about the hearing.

February 6 – The Planning Board will meet at 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Montgomery Planning staff will present the Rustic Roads Functional Master Plan Scope of Work to the Board.  Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information. February 11 – The community is invited to attend a discussion on Multimodal Transportation and a Healthy Economy as part of the Thrive Montgomery 2050 Big Ideas Series. The moderated discussion will focus on how streets can become economically competitive places that move people in Montgomery County. The event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Planning Department headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. February 12 – The Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will meet at the Planning Department Headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). Consult the HPC meeting webpage for agenda information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.

February 13 – There is no Planning Board meeting on Thursday, February 13. Consult the Planning Board’s website for future meetings.

February 20 – The project team for the 2020 update to the county’s Subdivision Staging Policy is hosting a community roundtable at the Upcounty Regional Services Center (12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown, MD). The roundtable will give the community an opportunity to discuss various aspects of the policy update with county planners. Learn more and RSVP.

February 20 – The Planning Board will meet at 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Montgomery Planning staff seek approval of the working draft of the Shady Grove Minor Master Plan Amendment and ask that a public hearing for the plan be set for April 2, 2020. The Planning Board will also receive a briefing on the Environmental Guidelines Update.  Consult the Planning Board’s agenda, posted 10 days before the meeting for more information. February 26 – The Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will meet at the Planning Department Headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD). Consult the HPC meeting webpage for agenda information. Meetings are available live and on demand online.

February 27 – Montgomery Planning is holding the first Advisory Group Meeting for the Pedestrian Master Plan at the Silver Spring Civic Building (1 Veterans Pl, Silver Spring, MD). Community members are welcome to observe the meeting and participate in a short public comment period at the end of the meeting. Learn more.

February 27 – The Planning Board will meet at 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD. The Planning Board will receive a briefing on the 2020-2024 Subdivision Staging Policy Update Transportation Element Initiatives. The Planning Board will also be briefed by University of Maryland students on the value of preserving ethnically diverse retail in Long Branch.
