BOYDS, MD—A portion of Hoyles Mill Trail will be closed starting today through approximately mid-November as the Department of Parks constructs a new bridge over the old ford across Little Seneca Creek on Hoyles Mill Road in Boyds.
The project also includes stream restoration improvements, upstream and downstream of the crossing, to improve aquatic habitat.
“This will be a great improvement for trail users, who won’t have to go through the creek anymore once this project is complete,” said Black Hill Regional Park Manger Jim McMahon.
The popular Hoyles Mill Trail—especially among mountain bike enthusiasts—runs south from Black Hill Regional Park through Boyds Local Park and Hoyles Mill Conservation Park to South Germantown Recreational Park and into Seneca Creek State Park where it terminates at Schaeffer Farms in the state park.
The portion of the trail that will be closed runs through Hoyles Mill Conservation Park and consists of the old roadbed which remains from the former public roadway. The work will be completed on the section of trail which encompasses the ford and the surrounding trail on either side, for a total of roughly 500 – 750 feet of trail. This entire portion of the Hoyles Mill Trail will be closed to public access with no alternative routes available.
Park users should use caution to avoid construction equipment and materials at the main construction access point from White Ground Road along Hoyles Mill Trail. Signage will be posted along the trail to mark the work area.
