The Quack, Quack is Back! Black Hill Regional Park Hosts Display of Maryland Jr. Duck Stamp Winners

BOYDS, MD—The winning entries to the Maryland Junior Duck Stamp competition are now on display at the Black Hill Regional Park Visitor Center, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive in Boyds. The exhibit will be at Black Hill through Monday, September 21, 2009.

“We are delighted to be selected again this year as one of the host sites for this display,” said Director of Parks Mary Bradford. “Previous Maryland entrants have often used Little Seneca Lake at Black Hill as inspiration for their illustrations.”

The Junior Duck Stamp Program is sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and teaches children about the importance of wetlands and waterfowl conservation. The “Best of Show” winner of the 2009-2010 Maryland Junior Duck Stamp competition is 14 year old Yi Patrick An of  Germantown, a student at Poolesville High School. His acrylic painting of a pair of long-tailed ducks entitled, “Swimming Towards Conservation,” was selected from more than 380 entries from this year’s Maryland statewide contest.

“This is a program very near and dear to me—I collect signed federal duck stamp prints, have attended many of the duck stamp contests at the US Interior building and have had the chance to watch the Bureau of Engraving and Printing run the stamps,” added Bradford. “I am looking forward to checking out this year’s display at Black Hill and invite all out to enjoy it as well.”

There is no charge to view the display at Black Hill and it is open during the Visitor Center’s normal business hours. At Black Hill Regional Park, visitors can also enjoy boating and fishing on the 505-acre Little Seneca Lake, a half acre enclosed dog park, picnic shelters and tables, playgrounds and nearly 15 miles of paved and natural surface trails. The Black Hill Visitor Center also offers park naturalist-led programs and special events throughout the year.
